2024-25 Summer Tryouts
Iowa Power Volleyball Alliance (IPVA) is entering our 25th season as one of the top programs in the area making IPVA one of the original club volleyball programs in Central Iowa. We have helped prepare hundreds of collegiate level players from the D1 level and down. We strive to not only teach them volleyball fundamentals but life skills as they progress in our program.
Why Iowa Power Volleyball Alliance: As the longest running volleyball club we have established a coaching staff with similar tenure. We have a coaching staff of 40 enthusiastic coaches with many many years of combined knowledge many of which played for our club and collegiately as well. Througout our history we have sent many teams to USAV Nationals and had many podium finishes to include a National Championship.
Summer Tryouts: Summer tryouts help to ensure we see our athletes in their prime and not to distract from HS Academics/Volleyball Seasons. This is also a great time to establish and manage the all the logistics that are involved with a club team/program. Families will have an opportunity to have team meetings, setup tournaments, and plan for the season. IPVA also offers our summer commitments training programs in the fall to prepare for club season.
It is highly encouraged to attend the main tryout dates and only makeup tryouts if you are unable to attend main dates. Some kids than attend main dates will be invited to return on makeup dates.

We ask that families consider this as well, timely response from familis is greatly appreciated so we can inform other familes of their bids as well.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
Why play club volleyball?
There are many reasons to play club volleyball such as:
- to learn more about the sport of volleyball from experienced coaches,
- improve your individual and team skills,
- continue to play at a competitive level after school season, and
- showcase your abilities to college recruiters.
Many players join the IPVA family because we provide a positive, yet challenging experience that prepares them to play volleyball at a high level in high school, college, and beyond.
How are tryouts conducted and players selected for each team?
Tryouts for each age group are held over two separate days to ensure that the right decisions are made. The tryout fee covers both tryouts. Several IPVA coaches will be involved in the tryouts and selections. All players will be given an equal opportunity. The better your skills are the higher probability of making a team. Skill is not the only factor considered. Teams need to be balanced with all positions, so the position that you play may be a factor. Attitude and leadership are also taken into consideration.
Is playing time guaranteed?
Equal practice time is what is being paid for in the fees. All players will have equal practice time. Playing time of 20% is guaranteed for tournament play. There is no guaranteed tournament playing time for NATIONAL teams. Playing time is determined by ability, attendance, attitude, position the athlete plays and the level of tournament.
How long is the club season?
Tryouts are are held in October and early November with practices starting shortly thereafter. Tournament play starts in December/January and ends in May. For those teams that qualify, the National Tournament is scheduled at the end of June through early July.
Where are practices held?
Iowa Power Volleyball Alliance Facility: 6290 NE Industry Drive, Des Moines
When are practices held?
Specific practice times will be determined once teams have been selected. Generally three days a week, Sunday-Thursday between 5:00pm – 10:00pm for National Teams.
Is volleyball a physically demanding sport?
Practices are fast paced, with plenty of exercises and movements. Jumping, running, and “hitting the floor” are all part of volleyball. To be at your best during a game, you must be ready physically and mentally in volleyball. In volleyball, you move to the ball, you don’t wait for the ball to move to you. So yes, it’s a demanding sport.
